This is a personal response to the art situated in the two exhibitions I viewed today in bristol I saw today.
It's a written decripion on what I felt was worth writing about.
Sheila Gupta- someone else
Audio installation...
Using sounds as a aversive subject and changing the climate had been the main focus to this artist she had subtlety changed sections through out the gallery, to change mood and characterisation of each individual as some sort of experiment as such.
Audio was played through out each piece, whispers of different things coming from speakers hang from the ceiling, with different conversations are played and also sounds.
The first piece i came across was a audio installation, standing in a different location In the room feels like a different experience as your selective hearing can only pick up only on small parts of information of each and every conversation played in the 7mins of a audio loop.
After the speech there is sounds of waves, the surround sound enhanced the mood of the flow of water it's very suggestive ,maybe ideology behind is was the though that your subconscious picks up on minute pieces of information in each passage of speech it can simply be remove with the sounds of waves washes our short term memory clean.
As there is a lot of speech interlinked with this piece there is a lot to pick up on and it get some what confusing.
Second installation.
Books
Pseudonyms are names are a common thing to do to be taken more seriously, they are used to be accepted as more seriously. Interesting due to the Hiding of your identity sits usually a configuration of your name that is suggested as some one of a higher class. The books associated in this piece all the authors had changed there names and there was a pretty vast collection.
The Third room.
Dim lighting (to set the atmosphere)
There was a cleverly construed sculpture of some kind, with micro phones the project was of voices and sounds, this was very eery, then onto of then if you got really close to the installation you could distinguish there was very subtle whispers. This piece had very common recognisable sounds, but then these were manipulated and used in a different manor to create this dark atmosphere.
The next piece was this piece was a american flight announcer flicking through messages of the artist perception on the world, they were simple suggestions of speech, her text is very well constructed, they have a great seance of wisdom and it promotes the sense of character you feel like you get to know what the artists feels emotionally.
Located in the 4th room was a very gentle piece of poetry that suggests difficulties in our life, on how we overcome the obstacles. The artists suggested the ease of use buy using a roll of tape due to the fact of its minimal proprieties and it has portable factors, hence the the term on the tape 'there is no boarders'.
Photography piece
This set of photo graphs suggested the elements of:
Personality, showing it with the composition, the characters movement and stylisation.
Purpose
The use of Children's gestures
Covering of her face suggesting a hidden identity
Political difficulties the diversity within difficulties
Hiding the features, the predominated senses.
With an ongoing society the world is an oyster in metaphorically terms ideologies and terms can be manipulated by a devoted speech or a simple quote Your mind can be set to something your subconsciously doing rather than thinking and stopping to make that divisive decision on what you are doing.
This is starting to be link with something else I'm looking into corporate Identity.
Spike island
First artist was Suzanne mooney
Visual peice tv,
And arrangement of his sketches on display.
Suzanne was was the artist that created the edge if collapse room of photographs but with a select choice of textures used. These were a very nice selection of conceptual pieces the simple choice of colour and composition. It was quite fascinating use of minimalism.
second artist included was Haroon mirza.
A installation that is a sound proof room that is made of cleverly constructed sponges cut in the shapes of triangles
There was a piece involving minimalistic constructions of items that resembled Ken-tic visual and sound and each factor was interlinked as one so as one motion of energy is made another is followed.
